Optical Confusion by The Streeters at ArtFields 2020

The Streeters

Optical Confusion is a fun glass sculpture installation that plays with the perception of space, reflection, and color. The Streeters have handcrafted 100 blown glass optic spheres. The spheres are hung from a ceiling of windows within a small room. A convex mirror reflects visitors, making them appear tiny within a space full of glass. Sometimes objects don’t appear as they really are.

Optical Confusion is one of 400 works of art on display from artists across the Southeast. The art is on display throughout Lake City April 24 through May 2 for ArtFields, an annual art competition.

Ed & Barb Streeter are visual artists who share a passion for glass making. They have worked together as a glass blowing team for over 20 years.

The Streeters handcraft glass for commercial, residential and church installations. They also create original glass sculptures and small objects for sale in their gallery. They attended The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass and Penland School of Crafts. Their studios and gallery are housed in a restored historic building at 708 12th Ave. in Conway, SC.

Glass is an amazing material to work with. We create each piece of blown glass through a process of layering and reheating the glass to 2100 degrees. The spontaneity of creating an object from molten glass is exhilarating. Our work explores textures and colors that create a sense of well being.
