First we want to thank those of you who have generously backed our KICKSTARTER project. All funds support the Conway Open Studio Project and the Experimental Glass Theatre. We've raised $1820 of our $2500 goal - we are now 72% funded. With just 10 days to go, every dollar counts and we appreciate everyone's enthusiasm. Tell your friends and let's make art happen!
If you don't know about this exciting art project, go here and find out how you can get involved.
The Open Studio Project budget provides for studio renovations, new lighting, glass materials, video and audio equipment and advertising. The first step in our project is studio renovations. The improvements have provided expanded classroom space and more room for events and demos. The added bonus is that now our work space is more spacious and organized - soon we'll be adding fans and new energy efficient lighting. We're really excited about the new video camera and monitor that will be installed in the hot shop. This will enable our visitors to see glass working techniques up close during the glass blowing demos.
Keeping up with our work while renovating the studio has proved to be challenging, but that part is almost over. In spite of the dust and noise of the jack hammers, we managed to build this beautiful stained glass window for Mt. Carmel Universal Methodist Church in Hemingway, South Carolina.
We've knocked down walls and opened up the studio space. The floors are being cleaned and painted and a new handicap restroom is now being added. Within the next few weeks we'll make lots of progress and we'll keep you posted as we get ready for the October 4th, First Saturday Glass Blowing Demos.
The goal of the Conway Open Studio Project is to raise the awareness of art-making as a career and to introduce visitors to entertaining, educational and fun art experiences in downtown Conway.
"This project is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts."
